It's been 6 blocks in my 1st year education at faculty of medicine gadjah mada university. I wanna share which book u will need to read in your 1st year medical course.
In 1st Block, We learnt about how to study in medical faculty. I thougt every student will learnt more than learning objective. Almost students had ethusiasme to study about the clinical case, dengue fever, purpura, metabolisme of hemoglobin, regulation of immune system, etc. Whereas, that clinical case will be studied in next blocks. Bio medical science will be studied in block 2 untill block 4, then we will learnt about clinical case since we reach block 7. What we learnt in block 5 and 6? I think it is a funny block because we learnt about "pancasila", medical entrepreneurship, and bioethic.
Let me review what book you need in your 1st year medical course
1. Dorland Dictionary
When you are approaching block 1, U will learnt about medical terminology. This medical dictionary will be usefull book that help you find the meaning of an unfamiliar terms.
2. Textbook of Medical Physiology
eventhough we didn't have to learnt physioogy at block 1, i recommended this medical books to be your 5stars physiology's books. It will help you when you was searching for learning resources in tutorials. This books will be usefull books in block 2, 3, and especially block 4. In 4th Block, you have to study about physiology of several system organs, like digestive, circulation, respiratory, and genitourinary. These Guyton physiology books will perfectly help you reached the university learning objective. As supplements, u can read physioloy of human body, this book more simple and easy understanding than guyton. You can also choose tortora's physiology as your supplements.
3. Harper's Biochemistry
Only several students who choose this book to be 5stars medical books because biochemistry is not a famous and intersting subjects as physiology and anatomy. BUt, this biochemistry books will completely help in Block2. In that block we will learn about several biochemistry reaction in human body, learn about nutrition like carbohydrates, protein and lipid. As I know, no other book that help me as well as harper's biochemistry.
4. Sobotta Atlas Anatomy
It's been the most famous atlas in my college. As I know, Anatomy is the most famous and intersting subject. In block1, we learn about anatomy of skeletal. we study about musculoskeletal anatomy in block 3. Then, in block 4, We will litte bit dizzy because we must study 5 system organs just in 6 week, this atlas anatomy will decrease your dizziness. Keep smile at this atlas of human body. As supplements, You can have clinically oriented anatomy or yokochi's atlas. Those book will be usefull books if you wanna be anatomical assistant when you reach your 2nd year course.
